The Importance of Social Media Networking

Love it or hate it, you have to Network! Why? It helps get your business seen. You get to know your customers. Your reach will be better.

No matter how busy you are, it is vital to be building time into your day to network. Find out when things happen in your groups or on your networking pages. **Block out time for these events in your diary.** Networking isn’t just about sharing your page, but about building relationships with other regulars on the page, being consistent so that you are ‘stable’ and more trustworthy. It is about staying at the top of their mental shopping list so that the next time they need your product, you are the seller that comes to their mind.

Interact

It is important to interact in relevant Facebook groups. Groups are great for your business and Facebook are currently really pushing the community aspect of groups. But don’t just post your wares. Add value to the group, be interactive and when the opportunity naturally arises to share your page, people will be more likely to take interest as they know the person behind the business. To find a group of like-minded people to network in, just use the search field then click on the ‘Groups’ section of the results.

Remember, when joining a group it is worth noting a few things.

  • Look at the number of members in the group -is it worth joining and putting in a load of value for a very low return as the group is too small?
  • See how fast the group moves. Will staying at the top of the posts cause take too much time compared to return?
  • In groups where people haven’t posted for a while, chances are it is probably best to move on to a more active group or your posts just won’t be seen.
  • Track your efforts! What are your aims for the group? Is it achieving that aim?

And don’t be afraid to leave groups, even after just joining, if you feel they won’t meet your needs or are full of spammy advertising with no real interaction.

Benefits

Networking can provide great opportunities for you to share your similar needs, wants, questions with others in the same boat.

It might provide access to a supplier that you hadn’t found elsewhere.

It might provide collaboration opportunities where you can partner up with a complimentary business and both benefit from a mutual goal or promotion.

You can increase blog traffic, followers and pins by participating in chore threads. Chore thread is the term coined when you drop your link on the particular thread and return the favour specified. It may be repinning others pins, retweeting tweets or comment swapping. Etsy chore threads can mean favouriting stores or exchanging hearts. (With Etsy, it can help you be found in searches if your ‘hearts’ are high on a particular item.)

You can get some great tools to help you finish these threads faster such as the amazing retweet tool that saves you manually retweeting or the Pinterest approved repinning tool.

Last tip…Be YOU…

Show a little bit of ‘you’ when you network too! People buy from people they feel they know. Show your sense of humour or quirky side. (for example, we all know I have a tendency waffle on…ahem!)

So, the key takeaway from today’s waffle! Show up, be yourself and be consistent! So, put time for networking in your diary and commit to it, I promise you won’t be disappointed!

People shouldn’t feel bad about leaving the group even if they were just accepted, time is precious and shouldn’t be wasted on groups not worth it!
